Nitra, 6 September (TASR) - The 18th year of the National Livestock Show is currently underway at the Agrokomplex exhibition grounds in Nitra.
The organizers pointed out that the current year has been affected by foot-and-mouth disease, so the exhibition is missing cattle. At the opening of the exhibition on Thursday (4 September), Agriculture Minister Richard Takac (Smer-SD) noted that the disease was a severe test that affected the entire livestock production.
"Nevertheless, the exhibition is taking place. This is proof that Slovak breeders have perseverance, determination and responsibility. Thanks to their work, we can see hundreds of other varieties of animals here as a living testimony to the richness of our agricultural tradition," stated the minister.
Visitors can see sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, rabbits and pigeons at the National Livestock Show. "But it's not just about showcasing livestock. The exhibition is a reminder that the quality and health of livestock is not a matter of course, but a result of systematic work and a responsible approach. The experience of this year teaches us that only together, breeders, the state, experts and the public, we can withstand crises and maintain the stability of Slovak agriculture," added Takac.
