Uzhhorod/Bratislava, 5 September (TASR) – Slovakia and Ukraine will develop cooperation in the energy sector in areas where both countries have shared interests, Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) announced on Friday following talks near the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod. However, Sakova noted that compromises may not be possible in the short term due to differing views. Sakova stated that a meeting is scheduled for Monday (8 September) at the Economy Ministry to discuss the potential "transport of Ukrainian oil through Slovak territory." „Projects that can be developed will certainly be pursued. For instance, on Monday I already have the first meeting regarding the transport of Ukrainian oil through our territory. Of course, if there are more such projects and they are technologically and technically feasible, we will definitely continue to implement them," the minister said. According to her, joint projects are expected to cover oil, gas, and electricity. „We have a project for the transmission of electricity through the Mukhachevo–Velke Kapusany border point, which is currently underway. The final phase of this project is expected in 2032," she added. She also mentioned a project focused on hydrogen production on the Ukrainian territory. Discussions also covered the production of biomethane and the supply of this resource to the European Union. Sakova broached oil imports to Slovakia, noting that the country currently benefits from an exemption from sanctions on imports from Russia. „At the moment, no other alternative diversification routes exist for our region," she stated. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that discussions are ongoing about building other routes, and several scenarios are under consideration. „It depends on whether there is a supplier, whether sufficient infrastructure is in place, and ultimately, it also depends on fees," she concluded. mf
