Prime Minister Fico Meets Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in Uzhhorod

Uzhhorod, 5 September (TASR) - Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Uzhhorod, Ukraine on Friday, with energy infrastructure being one of the main topics to be discussed, TASR reported on the same day. This is his first bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy in Ukraine. The conclusions of their meeting are expected to be presented by the two leaders at a joint press conference. The Slovak delegation in Uzhhorod also includes Vice-premier and Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) and Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD), whereas President Zelenskyy is accompanied by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Fico met with Zelenskyy shortly after returning from China, where he held bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. After his meeting with Putin, Fico announced that he would raise the issue of Ukrainian attacks on oil infrastructure with Zelenskyy. Fico also stated that, from the one-hour, one-on-one discussion with Putin, he drew several conclusions and messages that he intends to convey to Zelenskyy on Friday. The Slovak Prime Minister last visited Ukraine in October 2024 when the Slovak and Ukrainian governments held a joint session in Uzhhorod. jrg/mcs
