Bratislava, 1 September (TASR) - On Monday, on the occasion of the Constitution Day, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) bestowed the Alexander Dubcek State Award on Stefan Grman, Jozef Banas and Jan Telensky.
"It was an honour for me to present the three laureates with the Alexander Dubcek State Award today. I hope that the awarding of the honour bearing the name of Alexander Dubcek will encourage them in the activities for which we've presented them with this important award," Fico said on a social network.
The premier also pointed out that the Constitution can be described by four basic characteristics, which, in his view, aren't typical of other documents. "We have a modern European constitutional legislation, it is a modern constitution. Secondly, it is a constitution that has its own spirit. There are countries that construct a constitution as just a list of technical articles that regulate the running of the state. However, the legislators gave the Constitution a preamble in 1992 and this preamble clearly tells every single politician in what spirit he or she should interpret and apply the Constitution in everyday life," Fico said in his speech, adding that he considers our constitution to be a peaceful one because in the preamble it enjoins every single person to strive to preserve a lasting peace with everyone who is interested in it.
