Caputova: SNP Heroes Were Clear about Which Side of History to Stand on

Banska Bystrica, 29 August (TASR) - The Slovak National Uprising (SNP) is one of the most important historical events we have, ex-president Zuzana Caputova told the media at the nationwide SNP celebrations in Banska Bystrica on Friday. Thanks to the heroism and courage of the SNP participants, Slovakia has been ranked among the victorious countries of WWII despite the fact that part of the nation collaborated with the fascist regime even at that time, stated Caputova. "It was the SNP heroes who were clear about which side of history to stand on. We are honouring their memory with a reverent act for these reasons as well. The SNP is also important as it's one of the few historical events on which we have a majority agreement in society that it is something good, positive and a source of common pride," said the ex-president. The nationwide SNP celebrations in Banska Bystrica have been organised by the Defence Ministry, the Government Office and other ministries. A cultural and accompanying programme has been prepared for visitors in the park by the SNP Memorial, as well as demonstrations by military history clubs and a presentation of the latest equipment belonging to the Slovak army. The government allocated over €630,000 for organising the celebrations. ko/df
