Bratislava, 28 August (TASR) - Iveta Hricova has taken up her post as the Slovak Ambassador to North Macedonia, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry's communications department informed TASR on Thursday. On the occasion of presenting her credentials, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) confirmed that Slovakia supports North Macedonia on its path to the European Union. "The Slovak Republic is one of those EU member countries that support North Macedonia's EU integration efforts with concrete actions," Blanar said. Hricova previously served as Slovakia’s ambassador to Greece and also held posts at Slovak embassies in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. At the ministry, she has twice served as director general of the European Affairs Section. A few years ago, Slovakia helped launch a nationwide discussion in North Macedonia about joining the EU, she said. "The Slovak Embassy in Skopje has set up the National Convention on the EU, a format that was also regularly held in Slovakia. In the past, Slovakia also provided financial support to the North Macedonian National Convention on the EU through our national agency for development cooperation, also known as SlovakAid," she added. According to the Foreign Ministry, one of the key tasks for ambassadors is to promote Slovakia's economic interests, which is a priority also in North Macedonia. "The trade turnover between Slovakia and North Macedonia has doubled over the past six years to more than a quarter of a billion euros annually," Hricova stated, adding that "we are further developing this potential by seeking new opportunities for Slovak exports and investments." jrg
