Stats: Passenger Transport Up by 4.1 Percent in 2Q25

Bratislava, 27 August (TASR) - As many as 189.6 million passengers were carried by all forms of public transport in the second quarter of this year, an increase of 4.1 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday, adding that the increase can be ascribed to road transport, especially public city transport. Almost 126 million passengers used public city transport in the second quarter of this year, up 5.3 percent y-o-y. Suburban and long-distance transport also recorded growth in the number of passengers, the first after more than two years. As many asy 40.3 million passengers made use of this kind of transport, up 1.7 percent y-o-y. Rail transport posted just a moderate increase in the number of passengers, with almost 19 million people using its services in the second quarter. The number of people who travelled by passenger transport rose by 4.1 percent in total six months into 2025. The volume of cargo transported in Slovakia in the second quarter of 2025 amounted to 51.8 million tonnes, down 4.7 percent y-o-y. The decline continued for the fifth quarter, but its pace slowed down. The overall figure was mainly influenced by a 1-percent drop in road cargo transport. Other freight transport, which includes water, air and pipeline transport, posted a y-o-y decrease of more than 45 percent in the second quarter of 2025. The volume of goods transported by all forms of cargo transport in the first half of 2025 went down by 7.5 percent y-o-y. ko
