KDH Slams Government Plan to Cut Funding for Church and Private Schools Again

Bratislava, 26 August (TASR) – The opposition's Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) once again criticised the government-approved changes to education funding on Tuesday, as it objects to the planned reductions in the subsidy per student for private and church schools that are not registered as public providers of education, calling it discrimination against children of faith. At a press conference, KDH leader Milan Majersky announced that the party will propose amendments to the legislation and organise protests outside Parliament. He argued that church schools play an important role in society. „The government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is discriminating against children for their faith. Why should they receive less money for their education? Their parents pay the same taxes as the parents of children in public schools,” Majersky said. Majersky believes the government aims to eliminate church schools through the proposed changes. He described private and church education in Slovakia as a product of freedom, noting such systems operate in every developed country. According to Majersky, KDH will never agree with the proposed school funding model and is ready to oppose it in Parliament. mf
