Pellegrini Ratifies Convention on Police Cooperation in Southeast Europe

Bratislava, 26 August (TASR) – President Peter Pellegrini has ratified the Convention on Police Cooperation in Southeast Europe, aimed at improving international cooperation in terms of automatic exchanges of DNA data, fingerprint records and vehicle registration information, TASR learnt from the President's Office website on Tuesday.
The head of state ratified the agreement on 19 August.
"The Convention serves as a legal basis for cross-border cooperation in law enforcement, covering a wide range of modern forms of cooperation inspired by proven EU practices, such as joint threat analysis, liaison officers, pursuit operations, witness protection, cross-border surveillance, controlled deliveries and the transfer and comparison of DNA profiles and other identification materials," the document states.
The Convention also deals with cooperation in areas such as border search operations, joint border patrols, mixed analytical teams and joint investigation teams.
