Slovak Post Office Temporarily Not Accepting Parcels to USA as of 25 August

Bratislava, 23 August (TASR) - The Slovak Post Office (SP) is temporarily suspending the receipt and transit of goods parcels to the USA, including gifts sent between private individuals, as of Monday (25 August), SP's public relations specialist Michal Petro has told TASR.
According to Petro, this step is a reaction to a change in US legislation, which is aimed at scrapping 'minimal' duty-free arrangements for all postal shipments containing goods worth up to USD 800 as of 29 August 2025. SP will therefore only accept letters containing documents in printed form after 25 August.
Petro explained that in line with a decision of the US administration, shipments of goods will be subject to customs duties, which must be paid upon submission. Due to the necessary adaptation of systems and processes, several European countries have already suspended the receipt of shipments containing goods destined for the USA, and SP will temporarily join them.
PostEurop and the Universal Postal Union are negotiating a solution, while discussions are underway with the US administration about a transition period that would allow the implementation of necessary changes, added Petro.
The Slovak Post Office will inform the public about further developments regarding sending parcels to the USA depending on the progress and results of negotiations between the parties concerned.
