Bratislava, 21 August (TASR) - Both coalition and opposition politicians reacted on Thursday to the death of MP Anna Zaborska, praising her principled nature, determination and fight for the values that she believed in, while expressing their sincere condolences to her family and close ones.
Voice-SD leader and Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok noted that he always esteemed Zaborska's determination and long-standing service to society, even though they were standing on the opposite sides of political arena.
"As a doctor, politician and woman of strong faith, she combined her values with work for people, to which she dedicated her life. She deserves respect for her hard work, principles and courage to stand up for what she unwaveringly believed in," Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD) has posted on a social network.
Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD) viewed Zaborska as a direct, principled woman of strong faith. "She continued the legacy of her father Anton Neuwirth [a doctor and prominent representative of the Christian Democratic Movement/KDH - ed. note], but she also brought her own elements - authentic and unmistakable," he stated.
Opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) leader Michal Simecka stated that although he disagreed with the MP on many fundamental values, she was a prominent figure of a conservative party and left a mark on Slovak political history.
'Slovakia' party leader Igor Matovic thanked Zaborska for the life she sacrificed for others. "I never heard you complain, lament, despair. You quietly, devotedly and persistently did good regardless of attacks and obstacles, even though others would have given up long ago," he wrote on a social network.
According to For the People leader and MP Veronika Remisova, Zaborska was an exceptional woman. "She was a model of a person who stood firmly behind her values, and she has done a lot of good for Slovakia in Europe, as well as at home. She worked for our country until the end, and her determination and bravery should serve as a model for us all," wrote Remisova.
MP Jana Bitto Ciganikova (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) recalled that Zaborska was her great opponent in issues of women's rights. "Unlike many others, she didn't misuse these sensitive issues for her own media presentation. She believed in them and lived them her whole life. And that's why - despite my harsh disagreement - I was able to respect her," stated Bitto Ciganikova.
KDH leader Milan Majersky respected Zaborska for her friendliness and determination. "Anna was a respected politician not only in Slovakia, but also in Europe. I admired her persistent approach to protecting life and human dignity. We want to continue this work," he said.
Parliamentary health committee head Vladimir Balaz (Smer-SD) emphasised the fact that Zaborska was a doctor and a conservative politician with firm opinions, which she promoted in a decent and calm manner. He recalled that she also held the post of parliamentary health committee head.
MP Anna Zaborska died at the age of 77 on Wednesday (20 August), the Christian Union (KU) party has announced on a social network.
