Bratislava, 20 August (TASR) – The opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) welcomes the fact that the government did not discuss a proposed bill aimed at introducing changes to school funding at its session on Wednesday.
In its press release sent to TASR on the same day, the party reiterated that the proposal from the Education, Research, Development and Youth Ministry is unfair.
"KDH chair Milan Majersky has repeatedly called on Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to withdraw this discriminatory proposal," the party stated.
According to KDH, the bill aims to divide children into two categories. "Dividing children based on faith is unacceptable. Children of faith are not inferior, and no one has the right to discriminate against them just because they want to grow up in a school environment that they have chosen themselves," the statement added.
The Education Ministry has drafted a bill on the financing of schools and school facilities. It aims to extend the reasons for reducing subsidies per student. Under the bill, private and church-run schools not registered as public education providers would receive 20 percent less funding.
