Sutaj Estok: Ukraine and Europe Now Have Best Chance for Peace Since War Began

Bratislava, 19 August (TASR) – Ukraine and the whole of Europe currently have the greatest opportunity for peace since the beginning of the war, according to Interior Minister and leader of the coalition Voice–Social Democracy party Matus Sutaj Estok. Sharing his thoughts in a post on social media, Sutaj Estok expressed a positive view of recent meetings between key leaders. "I don't understand all the criticism from the opposition and their affiliated experts that 'nothing has been agreed'. After years of fighting, it should be clear to everyone that a solution won't appear with the snap of a finger. But it is extremely important that this solution is now being actively sought, that everyone – including Europe – is at the negotiating table, and that the hope of ending the war is growing," he stated. US President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday (15 August) evening. On Monday (18 August), the series of meetings continued with talks involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders. The meetings focused on efforts to end the war in Ukraine. A joint meeting between Zelensky, Putin and Trump may also take place. mf/df
