Simecka: With Consolidation Measures Still Unknown, Entire Economy Now in Peril

Bratislava, 18 August (TASR) - The government is all set to approve a consolidation package in two days, but nobody has any idea about what is going to be in it, opposition Progressive Slovakia party leader Michal Simecka told a press conference on Monday, criticising Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) for the fact that neither companies, nor the public or investors know what they should prepare for.
According to Simecka, this is a huge problem for the entire economy.
"Everything suggests that instead of consolidation, we'll be seeing the liquidation of the economy," said Simecka.
He recalled that the Trade Union Confederation (KOZ) has criticised the government for not holding any consultations with trade unions so far. There are also other organisations and institutions that should be part of this debate, he stated.
"What we know about consolidation is pure chaos. From cancelling exemptions from VAT and meddling with the second pension pillar, to ideas about reducing the number of regions. That isn't a recovery, but the destruction of the economy. We call on the coalition council to finally publish the measures while allowing experts and the public to join in the debate," said Simecka.
