Hurbanovo: New Cases of Hepatitis A Reported Last Week

Hurbanovo, 18 August (TASR) - Over the past week, 13 new cases of hepatitis A have been detected in Hurbanovo (Nitra region), the Regional Public Health Authority (RUVZ) in Komarno reported on Monday. Cumulatively, a total of 81 cases have been reported in Hurbanovo as of 18 August 2025 from two epidemiological outbreaks. "During the first one, seven new cases were reported, all within a single family whose members live at 12 different addresses in the town of Hurbanovo," said Denisa Masarova from RUVZ in Komarno, adding that a new outbreak has also emerged in a single family of 25 people, with six confirmed cases. Several measures have been implemented in response to the spread of the disease in Hurbanovo. Hygienists are trying to locate the sources of the infection, and all those who have been in contact with the infected people are subject to medical surveillance and mandatory immunisation. Disinfection of an artesian well used by Hurbanovo residents as a source of drinking water is also taking place. "Due to the increased risk of hepatitis A in Hurbanovo, RUVZ in Komarno continues to advise against organising public gatherings until the epidemiological situation improves," added Masarova. jrg/df/mf
