Bratislava, 16 August (TASR) - The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has demonstrated that opportunities for ending the war are opening up, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) said on Saturday. He stressed that even though the summit ended without an agreement, it was positive that it took place. "Both presidents made it clear that the war in Ukraine is a geopolitical issue. It is therefore important that the presidents of two global superpowers have met and that their meeting took place in a good atmosphere. The summit sent important messages to the world," the interior minister noted. He also pointed out that the war in Ukraine could not be ended by a single summit. "However, negotiating, communicating and talking to each other is always better than fighting and killing each other. That's why it's important that the summit in Alaska took place," said Sutaj Estok. Trump and Putin met in Alaska on Friday (15 August) to discuss the war in Ukraine and the possible ways of ending it. On Saturday, Trump informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the results of his meeting with Putin. jrg/ko
