Construction: Lack of Skilled People in Sector, Firms Hitting Limits

Bratislava, 12 August (TASR) - Construction companies in Slovakia are suffering from a shortage of workers, Petr Prichystal, marketing manager of a company called Lomax, has pointed out in a commentary, adding that according to statistics, 86 percent of domestic building companies have reported a lack of skilled workers.
The reason for this is that the labour market is ageing, construction branches are becoming less attractive and companies are often hitting their limits. The construction workload is at its peak in the summer season.
"The shortage of qualified personnel is a critical problem for all market segments, but especially for the domestic construction industry, which is to some extent dependent on seasonality. The population is ageing, and with it the sufficiently skilled workforce. Construction companies are already at the limits of their capacity. There is nowhere to take them, the number of students who successfully complete a technical field each year is constantly decreasing," stated Prichystal.
According to him, the problem with the lack of workers is most obvious during the summer season. Many companies are hitting their limits, which can lead to longer delivery times and put upward pressure on construction prices. This may place significant demands on project planning, the availability of labour and overall logistics in the future.
