41-year-old Polish Mountaineer Dies in High Tatra Mountains

Vysoke Tatry, 11 August (TASR) - Two Polish climbers fell in the High Tatra mountains, with the 41-year-old of them not surviving, the Air-Transport Europe helicopter emergency rescue service posted on a social network on Monday, adding that they airlifted the other to hospital. "A rescue helicopter from Poprad [Presov region] was called to the High Tatra mountains this morning, where two Polish climbers fell in the area of the Lavinove sedlo saddle. The crew was joined in Stary Smokovec by mountain rescuers who, after arriving in the designated area, were dropped into the difficult and exposed terrain with the help of an on-board winch together with a doctor," it said. According to the air rescuers, the 41-year-old mountaineer suffered injuries incompatible with life. "The other (46) suffered an open fracture of the tibia," added the air rescuers, noting that after primary treatment he was airlifted to Poprad hospital. am/mcs
