Stats: Number of Hotel and Guest-house Visitors Up 9.4 percent Y-o-Y in June

Bratislava, 11 August (TASR) - The number of people staying in tourist accommodation facilities in Slovakia rose by 9.4 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to over 606,000 in June, the Statistics Office reported on Monday, adding that this was the most successful June since the pandemic. Slovak hotels, guest houses and other accommodation facilities almost reached the record set in the pre-pandemic month of June 2019 at only 0.6 percent (3,600 guests) below it. Guests spent almost 1.5 million nights in hotels and guest houses in June, up 8.4 percent from the year before, with the average length of stay equalling 2.4 nights. Domestic clientele made up almost two thirds of all visitors, with their number going up by 6 percent to 373,000 in June. The figure was even 2 percent higher than the one seen the pre-pandemic month of June 2019. The number of foreign visitors went up almost by 16 percent y-o-y to 233,000, only 4 percent below the record set in June 2019. The most-frequently visited regions in June were again Bratislava region, with almost 149,000 guests, followed by Zilina region with more than 119,000 guests and Presov region with 102,000 visitors. These three regions together accounted for more than 61 percent of total visitor numbers in Slovakia. Domestic clientele preferred popular mountain areas, especially in Zilina region (almost 83,000 domestic guests) and in Presov region (almost 69,000 domestic guests). Meanwhile, Bratislava region was the only one with a prevalence of foreign visitors (96,000 foreign guests). In the first six months of this year, 2.8 million guests used the services of accommodation facilities in Slovakia, up 7 percent y-o-y.
