Bratislava, 8 August (TASR) – Slovakia exported goods worth €9.16 billion in June 2025, representing a year-on-year (y-o-y) increase of 0.9 percent, while imports rose by 3.9 percent to €8.82 billion, which resulted in a trade surplus of €334 million, the second-highest this year following the one in May, according to preliminary data from the Statistics Office reported on Friday. However, the surplus was still €246 million lower than in June 2024. "The balance reached this level despite the fact that the y-o-y growth rate for imports significantly exceeded the slight growth of exports. The increase in imports mainly resulted from an increase in the value of imported car components," said the office. Nine out of ten export categories showed annual growth, with the most significant increase of 13 percent recorded in the category of miscellaneous industrial products. The only category to show a y-o-y decrease was machinery and means of transport, which includes car exports. On the import side, seven of the ten categories saw growth, led by an increase of almost 20 percent in the category of miscellaneous industrial products. "More than 77 percent of Slovakia's exports in June went to EU-member states, from where nearly 68 percent of imports also originated. Exports to the EU rose by about 0.6 percent y-o-y, while imports from the EU increased by 4 percent. Exports to non-EU countries grew by over 2 percent, while imports from those countries fell by almost 4 percent. Slovakia thus recorded a surplus of almost €1.1 billion in trade with EU countries, but a deficit of some €722 million in trade with non-EU countries. In the first half of 2025, exports rose by 3.9 percent y-o-y to €55.4 billion, while imports increased by 7.5 percent to €54.3 billion. The trade surplus stood at over €1 billion, compared to a surplus of nearly €2.8 billion in the same period of 2024. ko/df
