Bratislava, 8 August (TASR) - Slovakia's industrial output decreased by 3.6 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in June 2025, the Statistics Office reported on Friday. After seasonal adjustments, industrial output shrank by 1.8 percent month-on-month (m-o-m). Industry thus posted lower y-o-y output for the third month in a row. The negative result in June can chiefly be ascribed to downturns in most of its sectors, with only one of the key branches recording stronger growth, but this was not enough to reverse the negative trend. Not even growth in key automotive production combined with extremely high growth in oil processing was able to halt the decline of industrial output. The most significant impact on industrial output in June was produced by an almost 12-percent y-o-y drop in metal production. The pace of decline accelerated significantly when compared to the previous month. Electricity and gas supply output was almost 15 percent lower y-o-y in June, with the second most significant impact on the overall result. Meanwhile, the overall output figure was positively influenced by almost 66-percent growth in the production of coke and petroleum products, which had the third most significant impact on industry overall in June. Significant growth in this sector continued for the fifth consecutive month. However, the rapid growth in this sector was only the result of a low comparative base from last year. However, the sector is in good condition, as its output was still 20 percent higher than the average in 2021. In the first six months of 2025 industrial output in Slovakia fell by 1.8 percent y-o-y. Seven of the 15 monitored sectors recorded lower y-o-y outputs. The result was most significantly influenced by almost 8-percent growth in the production of means of transport. ko/df
