Defence Ministry Registers 700 Applications to Join Gendarmerie Corps

Bratislava, 7 August (TASR) - The Defence Ministry has registered over 700 applications to join the Gendarmerie Corps, the ministry itself has reported on a social network, adding that this is a sufficient number to cover the needs of the Police Corps in rural areas with an insufficient number of police officers. "There is interest in serving in the Gendarmerie Corps not only among professional soldiers, but also among police officers. Active police officers or former members of the Police Corps can also become gendarmes after becoming active reservists," stated the ministry. Military Police director Robert Betak in a video on a social network explained that the gendarmes will be deployed after their training is completed and equipment is provided. The Defence Ministry plans to launch training for gendarmes at the Military Police training facility and at the Armed Forces Academy. ko/df
