Bratislava, 6 August (TASR) - Retail revenues in Slovakia in fixed prices decreased by 0.4 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in June, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday, adding that this was the fifth drop in a row.
Seasonally adjusted, retail revenues grew by 0.2 percent month-on-month in June.
Five of the nine retail segments saw revenues decline in fixed prices when compared to June 2024. The office ascribed the drop mainly to a 4.8-percent fall in the revenues of kiosks, e-shops and markets, etc. (entities without outlets).
The overall decline also resulted from two-digit falls (between 12-16 percent) in the revenues of outlets selling food, beverages and tobacco, as well as outlets selling books, toys and sports accessories (specialised goods for culture and recreation).
Meanwhile, an even bigger decline in revenues was dampened by the growth in revenues in four retail segments. The most significant positive impact came from 5.4-percent growth in revenues of outlets selling footwear, clothing stores, drugstores and pharmacies, and a 2.1-percent increase in the revenues of hypermarkets and supermarkets (non-specialised outlets). These two segments are the most important ones in terms of market share, stated the office.
In the first six months of 2025, meanwhile, retail revenues went down by 1.1 percent y-o-y, with drops recorded by five of the nine retail segments.
