Bratislava, 31 July (TASR) - The extremely difficult evacuation operation from the conflict-torn Middle East, during which 266 people from Slovakia and 27 other countries reached safety in the second half of June, confirmed the preparedness and professionalism of the Slovak crisis management and consular services and the solid position of Slovakia in the network of global relations, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry stated on Thursday.
"Crisis situations test not only preparedness but also the real solidarity of international partnerships. Through joint efforts with our partners, we managed to protect the lives of citizens of many countries, which confirms that trust and cooperation are the basis for successfully coping with even the most difficult moments," said Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD).
The ministry noted that Slovakia had received recognition from partners at both European and global levels during the evacuation operation. "The Foreign Ministry received a dozen letters of thanks in which representatives of states and international institutions appreciated the high level of coordination, promptness and solidarity of Slovakia," said the ministry's communications department.
Blanar also thanked Bulgaria, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Jordan, Hungary, Romania, North Macedonia and Serbia, which, in his words, promptly provided permission for our evacuation aircraft to fly over. "Their quick reaction at a critical moment allowed the operation to run smoothly and showed that the combined efforts are yielding specific results," added the Slovak chief diplomat.
