Bratislava 30 July (TASR) – The Defence Ministry had confirmed 1,065 applications for training in the National Defence Forces (NOS) by 29 July, with new reserves thus totalling 5,260 registered applicants, TASR has learnt from data published by the Defence Ministry on a social network.
A period of approximately one month is covered by the data, as the new law establishing NOS came into force on 1 July.
"The National Defence Forces is a concept of active reserves based on a voluntary principle and accessibility to the general public. That's why we're delighted to see that people are interested in joining the reserves," stated the ministry, adding that the registered applicants will be notified of the date of their training.
NOS has been divided into three types of reserves. The operational reserves are intended mainly for people with military experience, such as former soldiers or people who have already undergone some kind of training or compulsory military service and know what they will do in the army. Army newcomers without experience were able to apply for the standby reserves. Military reserves have also been established within the NOS structure, and those interested can receive training without the obligation to commit themselves to the reserves. Those who undergo the training will receive an allowance and the salaries of soldiers of respective rank. The Defence Ministry has also promised to provide some other benefits.
