Bratislava, 29 July (TASR) - The Prosecutor's Office is fully aware of its legal duties and powers even without "greetings", and it won't succumb to pressure from politicians, the media or public opinion in the performance of these duties and it won't adapt its procedures and decisions to their ideas, Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka posted on a social network in response to the statement made by Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and his "greeting" in connection with the statement of chairman of the extra-parliamentary Democrats party Jaroslav Nad.
"I'll continue to take measures within the legal powers of the prosecutor-general to enforce law and justice, even if they are unpopular or not shared by the spectrum (social or political), if I'm convinced of their correctness and legality," noted Zilinka.
According to Zilinka, the prosecutor's office, which is not part of the executive power, will certainly not become a part of and an instrument of political struggle. "No one, including politicians, can be denied the right to their own opinion and to exercise it in the manner provided for by law. However, various public appeals or ironic 'greetings' certainly cannot be considered as such," he pointed out.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the prime minister again criticised the statement of non-parliamentary Democrats party leader Jaroslav Nad about the necessity to "break up and lock away this pro-Russian collaborationist traitor scum" after the next election. He also repeated the words from his social media post, where he "greeted" the police and the prosecutor's office in this regard.
