Bratislava, 28 July (TASR) - The European Union (EU) has reached a framework trade agreement with the United States after difficult and intensive negotiations, the coalition Voice-SD party stated on Monday, adding that it is a compromise for both sides.
The party particularly praised the work of European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic, who conducted constructive talks and delivered specific results for the whole of Europe.
"Instead of the looming 30-percent tariffs, which were due to come into force as early as 1 August, a compromise rate of 15 percent for most goods, including cars, has been agreed. This is good news for Slovakia because it is an important step that has protected the competitiveness of our manufacturers and preserved security for thousands of workers across Europe," stated Voice-SD.
The EU's simultaneous commitment to buy $750 billion (€639.71 billion) worth of energy from the US will strengthen the Union's energy security, according to the party. The agreement also includes an increase in investment in defence equipment by $600 billion (€511.77 billion), pointed out Voice-SD.
