Bratislava, 25 July (TASR) - Members of the parliamentary defence and security committee are set to meet on Monday (28 July) to deal with the case of of how the police investigation concerning bomb threats at schools was reported.
Committee chair Richard Gluck (Smer-SD) said that the meeting was initiated by the opposition and that Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) and Police Corps President Jana Maskarova have been invited to attend.
The committee session has been convened in connection with the information regarding the course and conclusions of an investigation by an international team that included Slovak police officers concerning the bomb threats that were sent mainly to schools in recent months.
The Slovak police reported last week that they were taking action in cooperation with their Czech and Ukrainian peers in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in connection with an investigation into bomb threats targeted at Slovak and Czech schools as of September 2024. One Ukrainian national was detained during the operation.
The joint operation was later confirmed by the Czech police. They said that the man engaged in threats not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also in many countries of Europe. The Czech intelligence service BIS subsequently said that the activities of the detained person may have been financed by a Russian actor. According to media reports, Czech security forces criticised their Slovak colleagues for concealing information about the detained Ukrainian's ties to Russia.
The Slovak interior minister reacted by stating that the Slovak police only reported on confirmed facts. According to him, they had no permission or instructions to publish working versions of investigations, including a potential Russian link.
