Bratislava, 24 July (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini appointed 19 new judges of general courts on Thursday, stressing in his speech that an independent judiciary is one of the fundamental pillars on which our statehood rests. The head of state noted that the new judges will also contribute to the stability and solidity of an independent judiciary through their work. "Your decisions will not only affect the parties involved in the individual cases you will decide, but will also have an impact on the extent to which the citizens of the Slovak Republic will or will not trust justice, the rule of law and the democratic system, and to what extent they consider their homeland to be a safe and just home," stated the president. Pellegrini pointed out that if a citizen perceives the environment in which they live as unfair, this can lead to devastating consequences, stressing that justice can't be achieved through injustice. am
