Police: Ex-minister Jan B. Files Complaint against His Indictment

Bratislava, 24 July (TASR) – Former environment minister Jan B. (name abbreviated due to legal reasons) has filed a complaint against his indictment, Police Corps Presidium spokesman Roman Hajek told TASR on Thursday, adding that the complaint, along with the investigation file, has been submitted to the supervising prosecutor for a decision. "The Prosecutor-General's (PG) Office has registered the complaint, and the relevant prosecutor will determine the procedure on the matter within the statutory period," PG's Office spokesperson Zuzana Drobova told TASR. The former head of the Environment Ministry was charged with violating obligations in the management of somebody else's property in connection with the ineffective, uneconomical and purposeless use of Environment Ministry funds. The damage to the state budget is estimated at a total of almost €570,000. In response to the charges, ex-minister Jan B. stated that he had honestly defended the public interest and so believes that the criminal proceedings will prove to be unfounded. am/df
