Nitra, 24 July (TASR) – Police in Nitra apprehended a 41-year-old lorry driver who was operating a vehicle without a driving licence and under the influence of drugs. The man drew police attention by using a mobile phone while driving, according to the Regional Directorate of the Police Corps in Nitra. Officers from the Selenec motorway unit were conducting speed checks when they stopped the driver of a Mercedes lorry on the exit ramp at Nitra - South for handling a mobile phone while driving. The driver failed to present a licence. A records check revealed that his driving licence had been "retained", although he is not currently banned from driving. A breathalyser test for alcohol returned a negative result. However, a roadside drug test was positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. The findings were later confirmed by a medical examination at a hospital. mf
