KDH Doesn't Reject New NPP Construction, Fears Poorly Set Investment

Bratislava, July 23 (TASR) – The opposition Christian Democrats don't reject the idea of building a new nuclear power plant (NPP), but given the state of public finances, it's necessary to guarantee the financial sustainability of its construction and operation. Compliance with safety standards and transparency in selecting the most economically advantageous offer for Slovakia should also be guaranteed. The new nuclear power plant should be built in the Jaslovske Bohunice locality. "Slovakia can't afford another poorly planned public investment that will be paid off by our children's children, just for the benefit of a small group of people. The lack of detailed information about this project only reinforces doubts that this is just another dubious deal by the Smer-SD party," stated KDH. According to last year's government statements, the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice should contribute to the energy security of Slovakia and neighbouring countries. At the same time, it should provide a stable and reliable source of electricity, which will reduce the risks associated with fluctuations in energy supplies. am
