Police: Foreigner Charged Over Stabbing Incident in Sered

Galanta/Sered, 23 July (TASR) – A police investigator has charged a 28-year-old foreign national with bodily harm and disorderly conduct with respect to a stabbing incident in the town of Sered (Trnava region) on Monday, 21 July, TASR learnt on Wednesday. A verbal conflict between a group of three soldiers and two individuals escalated into a knife attack on a 42-year-old man, who sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital, Zlatica Antalova, spokesperson for the Regional Police Directorate in Trnava, has reported. The incident occurred in the evening near a closed railway bridge. "The conflict culminated in an attack by the 28-year-old foreign national, who stabbed the 42-year-old man in several parts of his body, including the head, abdomen and arm. The victim had to be transported to hospital with injuries," the spokesperson explained. The suspect was detained the following day and placed in police custody after necessary procedures were carried out. "Based on the evidence, the investigator charged the young man with bodily harm and disorderly conduct today. A motion was also filed to have the man held in custody. Under the law, such an offence carries a prison sentence of four to ten years," added Antalova. The Slovak armed forces acknowledged the incident on Tuesday, 22 July, noting that professional soldiers may have been attacked.
