Justice Minister Responds to Prison Guard Shooting in Presov

Bratislava, 22 July (TASR) – Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) is in contact with the director of the Prison and Judicial Guard Corps (ZVJS) following Tuesday’s shooting of a ZVJS officer, TASR learnt on Tuesday. Susko stated that he is closely monitoring the situation but, due to the ongoing investigation, cannot provide further details. „We're sending sympathies to everyone directly or indirectly affected by this incident. We are ready to offer assistance to the injured officer’s family, including psychological support,” Susko wrote on social media. The incident took place on Tuesday at the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Presov, where a 42-year-old officer of the ZVJS was found with a gunshot wound to the head. The officer served in the remand and prison facility in Presov, specifically in the judicial guard section. The shooting occurred while he was on duty. According to TV Markiza's information, the officer shot himself. The case is also being investigated by the Internal Affairs Inspectorate (UIS). mf
