Bratislava/Banska Bystrica, 22 July (TASR) - Samuel S. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons], who has been charged in the case of the knife attack that took place at a grammar school in the town of Spisska Stara Ves (Presov region) in January, will remain in custody.
The decision was made by the Specialised Criminal Court (STS) in Banska Bystrica on Monday (21 July), which extended his custody until March 16, 2026, as there were concerns that he might escape or continue his criminal activities, Maria Horakova of STS's information centre has told TASR.
The court's verdict isn't yet final. The defendant has filed an appeal against it, which will be dealt with by the Supreme Court.
The victims of the knife attack that took place at the grammar school in Spisska Stara Ves on January 16 were two women aged 18 and 51, a student and the school's deputy headteacher. Another student was injured. The police charged the suspect, an 18-year-old student from the village of Lubica, with premeditated murder.
