Zilinka: Prosecutor Indicted for Driving Under the Influence

Bratislava, 18 July (TASR) – A prosecutor from the Prosecutor-General’s Office, identified only as A. B. due to legal reasons, was formally charged with the offense of endangerment under influence, with the indictment filed by the Trnava Regional Prosecutor’s Office on 16 July with the Galanta District Court, Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka announced in his social media post on Friday. Zilinka stated that the accused has been temporarily suspended from duty by his decision, effective since November last year. The Prosecutor-General emphasized that in cases where a prosecutor is criminally charged with a deliberate offense involving driving under the influence to the extent of impaired capacity, temporary suspension is essential to uphold the integrity and credibility of the prosecutorial service. Zilinka also clarified that the suspension pertains solely to the prosecutor’s employment status and does not prejudge the outcome of the criminal proceedings. While suspended, the prosecutor is stripped of all rights and responsibilities associated with the position and may not perform any prosecutorial duties. mf
