Stats: New Orders in Industry Down over 4 Percent y-o-y in May

Bratislava, 16 July (TASR) - New orders in Slovak industry went down by 4.3 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) to €5.69 billion in May 2025, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday, adding that this was the second decline in a row and that its pace accelerated from 0.8 percent seen in April.
After seasonal adjustments, new orders in industry decreased by 5.9 percent month-on-month (m-o-m) in May.
Seven of the 12 monitored branches posted y-o-y decreases in volumes of orders in May. The overal development was influenced by the 5.2 percent y-o-y drop in orders in the production of motor vehicles, semi-trailers and trailers. This sector ensures almost half of orders in industry.
A significant impact on the overall figure was also produced by the 12-percent decrease in orders in the production of metal structures and the 12.1-percent decline in the production of electric appliances.
Meanwhile, the y-o-y growth in orde4rs was recorded in the production of machinery and equipment (3.6 percent), in the production of other means of transport (33.9 percent) and in the production of computer, electronic and optical products (5.3 percent).
