Bratislava, 13 July (TASR) – Slovakia is doing everything possible to ensure its people have affordable and stable energy supplies, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) stated on social media on Saturday (12 July).
Sakova emphasized that Slovakia is actively seeking the best possible conditions in ongoing negotiations between EU member states over new legislative proposals.
„We are presenting arguments, holding discussions, identifying risks, and offering specific solutions directly to the European Commission,” Sakova said, adding that the upcoming energy legislation has been her ministry’s top priority in recent weeks.
She warned that the end of gas transit through Ukraine, along with the European Commission’s REPowerEU roadmap — aimed at ending reliance on Russian fossil fuels — will continue to negatively affect Central Europe, especially Slovakia and Hungary. With Slovakia no longer at the start of the transit pipeline network but increasingly at the receiving end, the country is becoming significantly more vulnerable in terms of energy supply security, she explained.
Sakova stressed that she takes part in every bilateral and multilateral negotiation with the European Commission, as well as discussions at EU energy ministerial meetings. She acknowledged that the adoption of the legislation is likely inevitable, as only a qualified majority of member states is needed for approval.
„We are committed to doing everything in our power to ensure affordable and stable energy supplies for our households and industry,” the minister concluded.
