Bratislava, 12 July (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava has processed more than 1 million passengers this year, and the airport welcomed its one millionth passenger on Thursday, TASR has learnt from M.R. Stefanik Airport director Dusan Novota.
The airport managed to cross the one million mark two weeks earlier than it did last year.
"The airport has already processed its one millionth passenger this year. This is a key thing for us because we're moving the date on which the millionth passenger crosses the airport gates. It's earlier, which we're very happy about," said Novota, adding that while two years ago the airport handled its one millionth passenger on 3 August, last year it was on 25 July, and this year it's 10 July.
According to Novota, these figures show that the airport could reach the two-million passenger mark this year. "It indicates that the number of passengers this year will be higher than in previous years, and, for the first time since before the pandemic, in 2019, we'll again reach the round figure of two million passengers handled in a year," said the airport director.
Meanwhile, Bratislava airport recorded its best ever result for June this year, when it processed 281,477 passengers, which was 35,000 passengers more than in the same period of last year. According to Novota, new scheduled air routes, seven of which were opened this year, have contributed towards this.
