Bratislava, 12 July (TASR) - On Friday, the Culture Ministry marked the 182nd anniversary of the historic meeting of Ludovit Stur [Slovak poet], Jozef Miloslav Hurban, and Michal Miloslav Hodza, where the decision to codify the Slovak literary language was made, describing it as significant cultural and political act that continues to influence Slovak life to this day. On its website, the ministry stated that the aim of the agreement was to create a language understandable to vast majority of Slovak people, regardless of their native dialect, social status and religious beliefs. „The basis was the dialect of Central Slovakia, which, according to Stur, was the purest form of Slovak language and therefore was the most suitable to be adopted as the written language of the entire nation,” the ministry said. The event was also commemorated on social media by House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD). lin/mf
