Bratislava, 11 July (TASR) - The opposition 'Slovakia' and 'For the People' parties are planning to introduce a legislative package against so-called imperious behaviour, TASR learnt at a press conference held by party representatives on Friday.
Among other things, the parties want to push through restrictions on the use of blue lights and sirens when government officials and civil servants are travelling and the number of state secretaries at ministries. They would also like to make the use of government aircraft more transparent. They plan to introduce the draft legislation in September.
"We'll table this bill, and not only will we table it; it will be a possible condition for us for joining the next coalition," said MP and leader of the 'Slovakia' party Igor Matovic.
Head of the 'For the People' party and MP Veronika Remisova listed the points that they would like to push through within the so-called 'lex anti-imperious behaviour', including the scrapping of a life annuity for the prime minister, limiting the use of the right of priority driving, i.e. driving with blue lights and sirens, addressing the situation regarding overpriced government limousines, limiting the number of state secretaries at ministries and making the use of government aircraft more transparent. The list may still be extended, she added.
The current items aimed at bringing senior politicians down a peg or two also include the selling the villas meant for the three top constitutional officials. Remisova said that the state has invested millions of euros in reconstructing these villas, but the top constitutional officials are now refusing to live in them.
