PS: One Hundred Days of Transaction Tax Has Shown All Its Negative Effects

Bratislava, July 10 (TASR) - In its first 100 days of operation it's become obvious that the new financial transaction tax is harming entrepreneurs, reducing economic growth and increasing the use of cash in the economy, said representatives of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party at a press conference on Thursday, adding that the tax has brought all the negatives aspects that many people warned about in advance.
"What is happening is exactly what we, as PS, but also many experts, were warning about for months. What is happening is that this stupid transaction tax is bringing Slovak entrepreneurs down, stifling our economic growth and pushing people, both customers and companies, into an age of cash," said PS leader Michal Simecka.
People in Slovakia, he said, have no special aversion to paying taxes, but they expect to receive functioning public services in return. "But what everyone agrees on is that it is pointless to pay tax on a simple transfer, regardless of whether the company is in profit or in loss. That is as nonsensical as paying a tax on moving or breathing," stressed the opposition MP.
