Bratislava, 9 July (TASR) - The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) recorded extremely high daily precipitation totals in some parts of Slovakia from 8 a.m. on Tuesday (July 8) to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, TASR has learnt from its post on a social network.
Meteorologists recorded more than 92 millimetres of precipitation in the village of Oravice in northern Slovakia (Zilina region). Similar values were measured in the village of Ziharec in Nitra region.
"[Such heavy rainfall was also recorded] in areas of Slovakia where the occurrence of such daily precipitation totals is rarer; for example, in the Danube Lowlands. In Ziharec and Radosina [Nitra region] the daily rainfall on 8 July 2025 reached a record value for the month of July going as far back as at least 1951. This was also the second-highest daily rainfall at these two weather stations irrespective of the month," said the institute.
