President Receives White Heart Laureates, Thanks Them for Selfless Work

Bratislava, 8 July (TASR) - All professions are of great importance to society, but your profession has a unique dimension, namely the dimension of irreplaceability, said President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday when receiving the recipients of the White Heart award, which is awarded by the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives (SKSaPA). The head of state congratulated the laureates and thanked all nurses and midwives for their self-sacrificing work. Pellegrini stressed that nurses are not only a doctor's right hand, but also a patient's support. "You are there at the birth of human beings, just as you see to a dignified departure when everyone's time one day comes to an end. You often face death and pain, but at the same time you also experience moments of joy when you manage to bring your patients back to health. Quite simply, you take care of us conscientiously, with enormous dedication, professionally, but most importantly, with your own hearts," he emphasised. The head of state pointed out that nurses often care for patients without regard for their own exhaustion. Society owes them a great deal, therefore, he said. "That's why we also have to ask ourselves how we can take even better care of you, what we can do for you, what we can do to improve your working conditions and your material remuneration, and also how we can ensure that there are enough of you," stated the president, declaring that he'll always be ready to discuss possible solutions that would lead to improvements in their working conditions. am/df
