SHMU: Dangerous Storms Most Likely in Eastern Slovakia

dnes 9:50
Bratislava, 7 July (TASR) – Eastern Slovakia faces the highest risk of dangerous storms on Monday, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) warned on social media, noting that a cold front is currently affecting the weather across Slovakia. The cold front is expected to move eastward on Monday, bringing thunderstorms in the process. „This might involve heavy rainfall and strong gusty winds, especially if a storm system forms. Due to stronger air currents, supercell storms cannot be ruled out - which typically bring not only torrential rain but also larger hail,” the institute stated. Unlike previous cold front passages, this one is associated with a more pronounced trough of low atmospheric pressure. According to SHMU, more humid air is entering Slovakia, which may lead to more intense rainfall. This, on the other hand, is expected to help alleviate drought conditions. Meteorologists also anticipate that the low-pressure system will persist over Slovakia for several more days. As a result, they do not expect extreme heat to return anytime soon. mf
