SHMU Issues Thunderstorm Alerts for Most of Slovakia on Monday

Bratislava, 6 July (TASR) - A second level thunderstorm alert has been issued for Monday afternoon for the Presov and Kosice regions, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on its website, adding that high temperatures and stronger winds are to be expected, especially in the east, in mountainous areas. Strong thunderstorms may be accompanied by heavy downpours with an intensity of 30-40 millimetres of rain per half an hour, with hail and wind gusts of 70-110 kilometres per hour. In the Bratislava and Trnava regions, a first level thunderstorm alert was issued until 6 a.m. on Monday. Meteorologists issued a heat warning only for eastern Slovakia. SHMU also issued wind alerts for Monday. A first degree alert applies to districts including Tvrdosin, Ruzomberok, Liptovsky Mikulas (all Zilina region), Poprad (Presov region), Banska Bystrica and Brezno (Banska Bystrica region). lin
