Nitra, 6 July (TASR) - A staged historical procession will pass though the city of Nitra on Sunday, 6 June, symbolically depicting the arrival of apostles Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia in the 9th century.
According to the town hall, the parade will start at 5.45 p.m. at the bridge on Mostna Street.
The Byzantine mission procession will then continue along Mostna Street through Zupne Square in front of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, where a performance will begin at 6 p.m. "There will be a staged rendition right on castle hill, visually depicting what took place in history. The main element of the libretto and dramatic rendition is the year 863 and the arrival of a procession of armed horsemen of the mission led by the faithful Cyril and Methodius through the town of Nitra to the castle and their reception by Svatopluk [then ruler of Great Moravia]," said the organisers.
"More than 30 performers and 12 armed horseback riders will join the parade. Svatopluk will be portrayed by soloist of the Slovak National Theatre Opera Ivan Ozvat, and the character of Cyril will be played by Marian Viskup, an actor from the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra," stated the organisers.
