Trnava, 4 July (TASR) - Alignment of local government legislation is a prerequisite for stability and fairness and the law on oversight activities in municipalities must be part of these activities, the chief controllers of self-governing regions have agreed on this with Interior Ministry State Secretary and government proxy for local government Michal Kalinak in Trnava, TASR has learnt from Interior Ministry spokesperson Matej Neumann. „If we look at some of the provisions of the laws regulating the activities of local governments, we see significant differences, sometimes even contradictions. Local government legislation therefore needs the same consistent standard,“ stressed Kalinak. The joint meeting also included a presentation of the upcoming government council for public administration and activities related to the modernisation of local governments. „I also welcome the general consensus that the position of chief controller should be elevated to a separate law, which will regulate in detail the position of chief controllers,“ stated the secretary, adding that the work on this legislation will begin in late summer, and the working group will include not only representatives of chief controllers and local government associations, but also state institutions. lin
