Man Charged After Attempted Bank Robbery in Bratislava Shopping Centre

Bratislava, 3 July (TASR) – Bratislava region police have charged 28-year-old Jozef H. [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] after he attempted to rob a bank in a shopping centre on Einsteinova Street on Tuesday (1 July), police spokesperson Silvia Simkova told TASR on Thursday. "According to the evidence gathered, the suspect entered the bank branch inside the shopping centre at around 8:30 p.m. He demanded money from the staff while threatening them with a bomb attack and death. One of the employees responded quickly and activated the panic alarm. Jozef H. fled the scene shortly after," said Simkova. The police, with the assistance of the centre's security staff, apprehended and detained the suspect nearby by the Danube River. If found guilty, the suspect faces a prison sentence of three to eight years. mf/df
