Rasi: Celebrations of SNP and Cyril and Methodius Essential National Investments

Bratislava, July 3 (TASR) – The upcoming commemorations of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) and the Cyril and Methodius celebrations are essential national investments, according to House Speaker Richard Rasi (Voice-SD). Rasi made this statement on Thursday after meeting local authorities in response to media questions about spending during fiscal consolidation efforts. "You can't cut everything for the sake of consolidation. These historical commemorations are important for the nation," said Rasi. "I believe that anyone who watches the events will say that they were just as they should be and that not a single euro was wasted. I'm pleased that these celebrations are taking place. Maybe they're not even mainly for us, who still remember a lot, but for our children - who are growing up in a sort of European mix and a world of social media. That's why I see this as something truly meaningful," he added. The government has allocated €750,000 for the Cyril and Methodius national celebrations, which will be organised by the Defence Ministry. The event will take place at Devin Castle near Bratislava on Saturday, 5 July. The programme is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. and to include historical presentations, demonstrations of traditional crafts, medieval cuisine and a Glagolitic script workshop. A ceremonial evening programme will start at 9:00 p.m., broadcast live on STVR. In addition, the cabinet has approved more than €636,000 for celebrating the 81st anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising in Banska Bystrica on August 29. mf/df
